Birthday #71 😳

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again anyway, anyone who says “age is just a number” is young. They don’t have a clue! Age is an accumulation of experience over time and depending on what those experiences have been goes a long way towards whether you feel “your age” or not. Yesterday I was 70 and today I’m 71 so even though the year changed the reality is that I’m just one day older. If that’s the case then why do I feel so much older and so much more tired today? Today’s run was a drag and even though it was a very slow four miles on Lynx Hollow I feel like I ran a half marathon.

That brings me to the title of this years blog! Anyone who has been following my blogs knows that I have a goal to run at least one race in all 50 states. The original goal was a half marathon in half the states and when I met that I updated it. After managing to get another 6 states this past year I’m at 37. The key now is going to be to make the effort to get the last 13 while I’m still able. I met my new VA Doctor this month and he told me I needed to quit running because of risk of falling. He said, “you’ll never be balanced again”. I basically told him thanks for the advice but don’t bother bringing it up again. So even though I choose to ignore his advice I know there could be an expiration date on my running and I really want to meet this goal.

I knew my sister wanted to take me to dinner for my birthday so after deciding that I wanted Mexican I asked two time Olympian Nick Symmonds who lives in Springfield for recommendations. We went to Chapalas on his recommendation and it was outstanding. It was a good time.
