So Much to See
I mentioned earlier that I deliberately chose to drive shorter distances each day and take a little longer on the trip because I wanted to have time to enjoy places along the way. Yellowstone certainly didn’t disappoint and my plan for shorter days proved to be a good one there. I made a couple of stops and side trips that I wouldn’t have if I felt rushed and because of those I experienced two of my highlights. I saw a wolf, my first ever in the wild and even watched it stalk and catch something. While I managed to get a couple of pictures they don’t show much unless you know exactly what you’re looking at. The second thing was seeing a geyser that was erupting and it only erupted every nine hours. The entire drive through Yellowstone was beautiful. I couldn’t have asked for better weather and one employee told me I was just a couple days ahead of the snow.

Hopefully I’ll return to Yellowstone in the future. After Yellowstone I made a stop at Buffalo Bill Dam. I had no idea it existed and it has a pretty interesting history.

I stopped for a late lunch in Cody, Wyoming and ate ata hotel owned at one time by Buffalo Bill and named for his daughter Irma. The food was good and the decor was interesting but my enjoyment was diminished by a model train behind the bar supporting Trump in 2020. I was actually surprised and disappointed with how much support I saw for his re-election during my drive.

On day four of the drive out my plan was to drive from Sheridan, Wyoming to St. Cloud, Minnesota but on a longer route so that I could visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It was a beautiful drive on back roads and I enjoyed every mile of it. This was another time on the trip that I was grateful I allowed plenty of time for the visit because each time I decided to drive a little farther I saw more wildlife and scenic views.

After leaving the park I drove to St. Joseph, Minnesota to run a race the next morning in St. Cloud. The focus for the next two days was going to be less on site seeing and more on running races in new states.
