Back to Colorado - Reunion Run

After leaving Missouri I headed for Colorado to hopefully connect with some of the guys for a “Reunion Run”. Leaving I knew the weather was going to be iffy with a promise of October snow. They were actually expecting snow the night I headed out just overnight so I decided to drive most of the way and hopefully drive in the next morning after the roads were cleared.

On the way into town I called Ron Payton and we made plans to meet for lunch at Taste of Philly the place owned by the Orozco family. Their Green Chile Philly is amazing and something I hope to have at least once every time I go back to the Springs. The picture doesn’t do it justice. The beauty is in the taste. On top of that their fries are outstanding!

On Friday Joe Brazil and I got out for a run on the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail. It was a beautiful day after the snow they had. Then that night he came by and we had our traditional Little Caesar’s and beer pre race meal before reunion runs.

Saturday was the day of the Reunion Run at the Creepy Crawl 5K at Palmer Lake. All of the original reunion runners and RaShaan Davis all made it so it was a special event. It was also a milestone race for me. My 300th since turning 60! The weather and course were a mixed bag with wind, ice and mud. I was slow but satisfied with running and finishing with my knee being so messed up. This picture was taken before the racing weekend.

After the race we went to O’Malley’s and had lunch and a good time. It’s nice having friends to return and share race experiences with. Gerald won the entire event and RaShaan and I both finished 3rd in our age groups. Walter was 4th just 6 seconds off the podium.

After the race I headed north to Denver. I was going to once again enjoy the hospitality of the Spells and Robert and I were racing again the next morning at the Kooky Spooky 5K in Golden. There was going to be a big change in the weather if the forecast was correct. It was! The snow started before we left the house on Sunday for the race and had the potential to continue through Wednesday. I was watching the weather for my trip home and it was already to late to make a run for it so I decided to race. It was a hillier course and much colder than Saturday’s race but Robert and I both ran faster and won our age groups. This was my 50th race since turning 70!
